Sustainable processing
Regardless of the product, there are numerous ways for industrial companies to operate sustainably. We have already initiated and implemented a series of measures to make our processes more sustainable.
Despite various measures, there is still plenty of untapped potential within our company. Our challenge is to exploit this potential in the coming years and further reduce the environmental impact of our actions—in the interests of our children and all future generations.
Sustainability at Pahlke Schaumstoffe
It’s a simple fact that living and doing business are activities that use resources and pollute the environment. But to what extent?
We have a choice: Do we want to be part of the problem or part of the solution? Pahlke Schaumstoffe wants to be part of the solution. That’s why we operate in both fields of activity: sustainable processing and sustainable materials. We’ve produced a new sustainability one-pager to summarise the steps we’ve already taken, what we still want to achieve in the months and years ahead, and how these changes will benefit you as our business partner.
Take a look at our sustainability one-pager now.
We hope it makes for interesting reading!
Step by step towards a sustainable future
By continuously optimising our production processes, we minimise wastage, reducing our consumption of raw materials. Material waste is mostly compressed and recycled. Wherever this isn’t possible, we dispose of the waste properly. There are no vehicles in our fleet that emit more than 120 grams of CO2 per kilometre. This limit is being progressively lowered. Our fleet currently also comprises two purely electric and two hybrid vehicles. In our administrative activities, too, we try to protect our environment and conserve our resources as much as possible. Incoming and outgoing invoices, as well as correspondence between us and our partners, are mostly handled via a digital, paperless process. Whenever we have to print documents, we use 100% recycled paper. To reduce energy consumption and be more environmentally friendly, we have converted our entire company to modern gas heating with highly efficient gas condensing technology. All our production and warehouse buildings have also been extensively insulated in recent years. What’s more, we’ve upgraded the lighting in our buildings to modern, energy-efficient LED bulbs.
Sustainable energy supply
We’ve already switched the company’s entire power supply to green energy. Stadtwerke Konstanz supplies us with 100% genuine green electricity from renewable energy sources such as hydropower.
Our gas is also supplied by Stadtwerke Konstanz and consists of 100% biogas from organic residues.
The supplier holds several certifications: TÜV, the Grüner Strom label, and the Biogaslabel Grünes Gas confirming each year that Stadtwerke Konstanz’s green energy and biogas has been sustainably produced.
However, we want to keep improving in order to protect the environment and its resources to the best of our ability. For this reason, we installed our own photovoltaic system on the roof of our production plant in Notscheid in May 2019. The system is composed of 891 photovoltaic modules and generates 216,000 kWh on average each year. According to our calculations, this makes Pahlke energy self-sufficient.
